Today, we’re curling up with the extraordinary journey of Kit’s Cats — a cat behavior educator, service cat trainer, content creator, community builder, and deeply devoted cat mom whose life has been shaped by four unforgettable felines: Ash, Misty, Miso, and Harvey.
Her story isn’t neat or linear.
It’s emotional.
It’s imperfect.
It’s loving, complex, painful, hopeful — very much like cats themselves.
And we’re honored she trusted us to help tell it.
The Cats Who Started Everything
When we asked Kit how her cats found her, she didn’t hesitate — every single one of them was a “that’s my cat” moment.
Ash was the first.
Six years ago, she went to see Burmese kittens. None were left. But there was one tiny stray kitten who’d been placed with a Burmese mum as her adoptive baby. He didn’t match the litter. He didn’t match the plan.
He simply matched her.
Then came Misty, the wild little barn kitten with a spirit too bright to ignore. Kit says she would have adopted differently if she had known more at the time — but Misty, small and fierce, was meant to be hers. The loyalty between them is unmistakable.
Miso was the “commitment cat,” chosen alongside her partner. A firecracker. Bold, funny, dramatic, loving — the kind of cat who rearranges your entire life without asking permission. But last year, Miso went missing for a month. She wasn’t found alive.
That loss reshaped everything.
And then there is Harvey — the kitten who hadn’t been chosen by anyone else. Week after week he stayed, waiting. And when Kit saw his face, she knew. More than knew. She recognized him.
Harvey became her dream service cat in training. A Maine Coon with softness, smarts, and a way of looking at Kit like he’d been waiting for her, too.
Every cat, every moment, every bond:
“I saw them and thought, that’s my cat.”
How Kit Discovered Her Gift for Understanding Cats
This part made our newsroom ears perk.
Kit didn’t grow up thinking she’d be a behaviorist.
It wasn’t a career plan.
It wasn’t even something she recognized in herself until recently.
She connects more deeply with animals than people. She sees patterns instantly. Behavior, communication, micro-signals — all the things humans miss, she catches effortlessly.
Cat behavior, she says, is “pure pattern language.”
A thing happens, so another thing happens.
A tail twitches, so a boundary is set.
A blink softens, so trust unfolds.
For Kit, this is fluency — not effort.
We think that’s beautiful.
The Moment Kit’s Cats Was Born
This part of the story is tender. Heavy. Hooman.
When Miso went missing, Kit shared updates online. Her posts reached people far beyond her community — and when Miso wasn’t found alive, the entire cat world wrapped around her.
Grief became connection.
Connection became purpose.
Purpose became Kit’s Cats.
She wanted to stay connected, help people, and share what she had learned researching service cat training and behavior. She wanted her pain to become something meaningful for others.
And it did.
The Message Behind Kit’s Work
Kit’s mission is clear:
Your cat is always communicating.
Most people simply don’t know the language.
She teaches people how to see patterns, decode behaviors, and understand the world from the cat’s perspective — not through force, punishment, or dog-style training.
Her impact?
People write to her saying she helped them bond with their cat, solve long-standing problems, or finally understand their cat’s needs.
And it means everything to her.
How Harvey Became “The One”
Years ago, Kit loved the idea of service animals — but after developing chronic pain, it became something she needed, not admired.
Dogs were not an option due to sensory barriers and allergies.
So she researched.
Then experimented.
Then tried training Ash.
And unexpectedly, beautifully — he learned.
Not just a little.
A lot.
Spins. Jumps. Tasks. Focus.
That’s when she realized:
Any cat can learn if you find their motivation.
From that moment forward, she knew her next cat would be her service cat.
Then came Harvey — calm, bonded, clever, intuitive.
Training him became the foundation for her courses and behavior work.
The Heart of Kit’s Work
When we asked Kit which part of her work lights her up the most, her answer felt like a soft beam of sunshine across our whiskers.
She said her service cat courses are one of her greatest joys — something she’s been carefully restructuring into three clear sections so people can choose exactly what they need. The feedback she’s already received has been thoughtful, encouraging, and deeply meaningful to her.
But her glow didn’t stop there.
She also shared how much she loves creating personalised behaviour plans. Helping someone one-on-one — listening to their struggles, understanding their cat, building a plan rooted in gentleness and communication — brings her a sense of purpose that radiates through every word she writes. Connecting with people on a deeper level and witnessing real change in their homes is the kind of work that stays with her.
Her Gentle Method: Connection Before Correction
When we asked what sets her behaviour plans apart, her philosophy was clear:
✨ Everything begins with body language.
✨ Nothing begins with punishment.
✨ And cats are never treated like dogs.
She focuses on understanding the why behind a behaviour before attempting to shift the behaviour itself. Cats communicate through tiny, consistent patterns — and once you understand those patterns, everything becomes easier. Instead of fighting behaviours, you can prevent them. Instead of confusion, you get clarity. Instead of conflict, you get connection.
Her method is slow, soft, and rooted in real feline psychology — not quick fixes or dominance-based myths.
The Misconceptions She Wants the World to Unlearn
There are two myths Kit wants to bury forever:
Myth #1: Cats can’t be trained.
They absolutely can — and her work is living proof.
Myth #2: Cats don’t bond deeply with their humans.
Harvey, she says, would live inside her skin if he could.
We get it. We really do.
Cats love fiercely and attach intensely — they just express it differently than dogs or humans. Kit’s mission is to help people recognize that love, understand it, and nurture it.
Kit’s Courses, Services & One-on-One Support
Her work includes:
✨ Service cat training courses
✨ Behavior plans rooted in body language
✨ Gentle, accessible guidance
✨ No punishment, ever
✨ Teaching the “why” behind behavior, not just the “how”
She builds everything slowly because of disability — but builds it with pride, precision, and heart.
If people can’t afford help, she doesn’t turn them away.
If someone is struggling, she wants them in her community.
If learning is overwhelming, she breaks it down.
Her goal is impact — not ego.
And that’s rare.
