When Downward Dog Meets Upward Cat
Picture this: a room full of yoga mats, hoomans trying their best to balance, and adoptable cats casually strutting across the room like they own the place. (Spoiler: they do). That’s exactly what went down at Cat Yoga at Columbia Animal Shelter on September 15th — and let’s just say, the cats completely stole the show.
What Made This Event So Purr-fect
For $25 a person, attendees got a guided yoga class courtesy of Rock’s CardioBox and Fitness, LLC, plus an extra dose of purr-therapy. Cats and kittens from Columbia Animal Shelter roamed freely, offering unexpected snuggles, comic relief, and spontaneous paw taps mid-pose.
Here’s what the evening included:
🧘 Gentle, all-levels yoga led by an instructor who clearly has a sense of humor.
🐱 Free-roaming adoptable cats & kittens making each mat a potential cuddle zone.
🐾 Shelter meet-and-greet to learn about the cats waiting for forever homes.
🎁 Donation opportunities for the shelter’s wish list.
One hooman summed it up perfectly: “I came for yoga, but I left in love with three kittens.”
Why Cat Yoga Matters
It wasn’t just about the stretches (though Callie insists her cat pose is still better than any hooman’s attempt). Events like this are fundraisers that fuel shelter operations, adoption opportunities, and community education.
