PENNSYLVANIA — If you've ever wanted to see hundreds of cats in one room — judged, fussed over, and treated like the royalty they are — you don't have to leave the state.
Cat shows in Pennsylvania are very much a thing.
And one of the first big ones of the season is happening right here in Berks County.
We get asked about these all the time. Where are the cat shows near me? Can I just walk in? Do you have to own a fancy purebred? (No.. no we dont.) Buuut we're laying it all out — the 2026 lineup, what actually happens at a show, and the part most people don't realize:
Your rescue cat can compete too.
What Happens at a Cat Show?
A cat show is a one- or two-day event where cats are judged by breed standards across multiple "rings," each with its own judge. You'll see pedigreed cats competing for titles, plus a household pet class for everyday and rescue cats. Most shows also have vendors, feline agility, and "pet me" cats you can meet.
In other words: it's part competition, part festival, part the best people-watching (and cat-watching) of your year.
Bring comfortable shoes. Bring cash for the vendor hall. Maybe don't bring your own cat unless you've entered — but more on that below.

Household Pet Class: Yes, Your Rescue Cat Can Compete
Here's the part we love.
You don't need a pedigree. You don't need papers. Most shows include a Household Pet (HHP) class specifically for mixed-breed and rescue cats — spayed or neutered, judged on health, condition, and personality rather than breed standards.
That tabby you pulled off the street? Eligible.
The one-eyed senior who rules your couch? Eligible.
It's one of the most heartwarming corners of any show — proof that "show cat" and "rescue cat" were never opposites. (If your cat came from a local rescue, you might recognize a few faces from our Berks County rescue leagues.)
Tips Before You Go
A few things we've learned:
Confirm the date and tickets with the show's organizer first — sanctioning bodies (CFA, TICA) list shows, but details change.
Bring cash for the vendor hall; small rescue-run tables don't always take cards.
Ask before you touch. "Pet me" cats are fair game; cats in benching cages are resting between rings.
Leave your own cat home unless you've officially entered — show halls are stressful for un-entered cats.
Go early for the calmer aisles and the best vendor selection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there cat shows near Reading, PA? Yes — the Morgantown show (Berks County) is the closest, with York and Lebanon both under about an hour away.
Can mixed-breed or rescue cats enter a cat show? They can. Most shows have a Household Pet class for spayed/neutered cats of any background, judged on health and personality rather than breed.
How much does it cost to attend a cat show? Spectator admission is usually modest (often around $5–$10), and many shows offer discounts for kids, seniors, or shelter donations. Confirm with each show.
Can I adopt a cat at a cat show? Sometimes — many PA shows include rescue tables and adoption-awareness events. For dedicated adoption days, see our Pennsylvania cat adoption events guide.
One Last Thing
Whether you go to cheer on a Maine Coon the size of a toddler or just to find your people, a cat show is a good reminder of something we say a lot around here:
Every cat deserves to be celebrated. Pedigree optional.
We'll keep this guide updated as 2026 dates are confirmed — so save it, and we'll see you in the vendor hall. 🐾
