A Cat Café Story That Started in Iceland

Hello, beloved hoomans. Your favorite Stray Cat newsroom felines are back — Today, we’re whisker-deep in a cozy, heartwarming feature all about Craig’s Cat Café — a true Cuddle Cats haven and one of the dreamiest Cat Café PA spots we've ever pounced upon. We padded into this story with our tails high, because Craig’s Cat Café isn’t just another Cat Café PA spot — it’s a heartfelt, Iceland-born dream that settled beautifully into Spring City.

Rachel’s inspiration sparked during a holiday trip to Reykjavik while visiting her son, who was stationed in Germany with the Air Force. Agreeing to meet halfway in Iceland, they decided to visit a cozy Icelandic café full of cat purrs and warm drinks, and right then and there, Rachel felt the unmistakable calm and comfort that only cats can create.

Add in her years working in special education, watching students light up around animals, and the mission became clear:

Create a space where hoomans and cats can comfort each other — and where adoptable cats can find their forever homes.

What Makes Craig’s Cat Café So Special

This café has layers of charm, and the heartbeat is volunteers who care for the cats, and their partnership with Calla’s Critter Rescue. With volunteers caring for the cats twice a day — feeding, watering, administering medications, cleaning, and giving the kind of affection only true cat people understand — it’s no wonder the resident cats are so healthy, social, and happy.

Shoutouts are absolutely deserved: Karissa, Steve, Kim, Chrissie, Pati, and the entire Calla’s Critter Rescue team.
Their efforts show in every whisker.

The rescue has also added upgrades:
✨ a new litter-room addition
✨ a brilliant sky walk
✨ flooring updates scheduled soon

And on the café side?
Warm drinks, cozy corners, and gluten-free/dairy-free baked goods from Laine’s Bakery make it a place where stress melts, purrs rise, and cat antics can snap anyone out of a bad mood.

A Day in the Life: Unlock, Pettings, Coffee, Repeat

The magic begins early. The moment the front door latch clicks open, the cats know — everyone lifts their heads, stretches their paws, and gathers eagerly.

Rachel walks in with a bright, “Hi babies!” and immediately begins the essential ritual:
pettings… all around.

Visitors pay a simple $10 entrance fee and are welcomed to spend unlimited time in the lounge with 26 cats and kittens. Drinks are allowed in the cat room, and watching the kittens play, leap, wrestle, and then crash into coordinated naps is endlessly soothing.

By noon, the café settles into peaceful silence as cats nestle into their preferred napping spots — sometimes alone, sometimes curled into a warm pile of friendship.

What Guests Should Know Before Visiting

  • No reservations needed

  • No age restrictions (just supervision + kindness)

  • Children cannot pick up cats — but the cats will happily climb into a lap

  • Weekends can get busy

  • Weekday visits are encouraged

  • A full coffee shop area offers drinks, snacks, and baked goods

  • A large plexiglass wall allows guests to watch before entering the cat space

Spring City Loves This Café — Even the Mayor Stops By

We weren’t the only ones who felt the magic of Craig’s Cat Café. Spring City’s own mayor, Adam Alberico, shared a heartfelt statement with us — and we think it captures the café’s spirit purrfectly:

I visited the cafe over a year ago, and I could immediately tell it was something special and unique. It’s truly a place for all ages to come in, unwind in a fun way, and relieve some stress by playing with the cats.

I never imagined that when they opened, it would become a place of healing—for both the cats who find loving homes and for the patrons who come to enjoy their company.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to see if you’re the right fit for a cat, allowing visitors to get to know each cat’s personality and determine if adopting one is the best choice for them.

Walking into Craig’s Cats Cafe, you can’t help but notice the smiling faces and laughter echoing throughout the cat play area. It’s heartwarming to see families together, all supporting a great cause by playing with the cats and possibly considering adoption.

The whole experience brings smiles, and it’s a joy to witness the positive impact Craig’s Cats Cafe has on the community.
— Mayor Adam Alberico for Spring City

We may be cats, but even we felt the warmth in his words.
It’s not every day a small-town café becomes a hub of joy, stress relief, and connection — for both cats and hoomans. The mayor sees it. Rachel feels it. And the community lives it.
