Creativity, Cats & Compassion — The Purrfect Combo

Hi hoomans! It’s Callie, Seymour, Yebba, and Mama — your Stray Cat News crew, bringing you today’s feel-good headline straight from Philadelphia.

You know what’s better than yarn, boxes, or belly rubs? Cats & Crafts! 🐾

At Fishtails Animal Rescue (FAR) recently hosted a heartwarming event that combined local art, community, and — of course — adoptable cats. The result? A cozy day full of creativity, cuddles, and connection.

The Inspiration Behind Cats & Crafts

Victoria, Foster Director for Fishtails Animal Rescue told us the event was inspired by “read to shy cats” programs she’d seen at other rescues — but she wanted to take it a step further.

“I wanted to tap into the craft community — which I’m part of — to bring new faces to our rescue,” she said. “I wanted an adoption event that was calm but exciting, with community artists and makers to keep building connection.”

And she did just that. With two local artists (one silly, one whimsical), delicious vegan treats from Batter & Crumbs, and a lineup of cuddly cats waiting for their forever homes, the event was a full-on success.

😻 Community + Creativity = Rescue Magic

The day was filled with foot traffic, laughter, shopping, and of course — lots of cat cuddles.

“Our space was full of people we’d never met before,” Victoria shared. “One of my favorite moments was watching a young girl who fundraises for our rescue every year spend time with every single cat. Seeing children so deeply connected to a cause like this is incredibly heartwarming.”

Beyond the fun, events like these have real impact: they help socialize adoptable cats, spark conversations about fostering, and bring in new supporters who may not have known about Fishtails before.

🏠 Giving Cats Their Fighting Chance

Founded in 2017 by Dr. Lauren Cohn, Fishtails Animal Rescue began as an extension of Fishtown Animal Hospital. Dr. Cohn’s mission was simple but powerful — to give every animal, no matter their medical needs, their fighting chance.

Through Fishtails Fighting Chance Fund, the rescue helps pet owners afford emergency care, preventing surrenders and keeping families together. It’s rescue work that reaches beyond the shelter — healing pets and hearts.

But as Victoria reminds us, “The biggest need right now is fosters. Even a week of fostering can change a life. We guide you through the process — you don’t need a big space or years of experience. You just need love.”
